The Art of Gymnastics
Nastia Liuken uneven bars, 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Gymnastics is a sport that requires strength, agility, coordination, balance, flexibility, and creativity. Centuries after this art's creation, it remains an outstanding and adored sport for many spectators worldwide.
Men and women of all ages and nationalities train their bodies in preparation for the intensive, demanding skills involved in this sport. This preparation includes sport-specific training that focuses on the strengths needed to execute skills and prevent injuries.
Gymnasts are also encouraged to develop their flexibility (required for a variety of skills, i.e. split leaps, bridges, etc.) as well as their coordination (essential for balance on apparatus such as beam and even/uneven bars).
Gymnastics Co.™ Canada's mission is to educate aspiring or active gymnasts on the topic of sport-specific gymnastics training by providing samples of exercises that will benefit the execution of skills and all-around performance.
